The moment the airplane's doors opened, a gust of hot, dry air greeted them.

Killian took a deep, ragged breath, feeling dusty particles of sand fill his lungs like grainy ashes. There was an electric energy in the air, almost as if the bent pyramid had come alive with a force that seemed to haunt them, drawing them ever closer. Its steep angles and curved walls stood out against the flat desert landscape, beckoning them towards whatever secrets it held within.

As they disembarked and began unloading their equipment, a small group of local security personnel approached them.

“Halt!” one of the guards shouted, casting a scrutinizing glance at their belongings. “You cannot bring this stuff in here.” He thrust his chin in the direction of the chest on the ground, which contained all the equipment Ciaran needed to identify the gateway.

Ciaran had to get it past the guard if they were going to find the opening.

Ciaran stepped forward, his usual charm oozing from every pore. "We understand your concerns, but I assure you, we have no intention of causing any damage."

The guard snickered, "I've heard that excuse before. No equipment inside. That's final."

Killian tightened his jaw, his patience draining away. He knew they couldn't afford to waste any more time arguing with the guards. But before he could speak, Ethan stepped in front of him and addressed the guard in charge.

"I'm an archaeologist, and I've worked on multiple projects in Egypt already. I understand the correct ways to handle these ancient sites." He gestured towards the chest. "I wouldn't even call what is inside 'equipment."

"What is it then?"

Ciaran was about to speak up but Viv pulled on his elbow holding him back.

Killian noticed a brief exchange of looks between Viv and Ethan. Then Ethan returned his attention to the guards. "These are safety measures. We need them due to our health and safety regulations, just like vests, helmets, and long-life battery torches."

He nodded solemnly. "I must check. Open the chest."

Killian intended to say, "It's unnecessary," but what came out was more like a growl.

Ethan shot Killian and Ciaran a quick look, signaling them not to move closer. He then faced the guard again, saying with apparent indifference: "Sure, if you must."

Killian cursed silently. Inside that chest was Ciaran's arsenal; enough weapons and equipment to take down a small army.

Ciaran motioned for Killian to stop before he could reach out to the guard. He pushed a button on the remote-controlled key fob in his hands. The lock relented, releasing its hold on the lid of the chest.

Killian could tell Ethan and Viv were up to something. But he was flabbergasted that Ciaran had this much confidence in their plan.

As the chest opened, a flurry of supplies flew out - rows upon rows of safety vests, helmets with visors protecting their faces, torches shining brightly, and bottles of cold water. Artefacts from former explorations lay buried among the stacks, along with historical papers and documents.

Suddenly, underneath it all, a tiny frog appeared with a loud croak and leapt out into the open.
